Shopping My Closet with Prints

More and more I'm realizing how large my current clothing selection is and that most of my clothes are still current and classic. So today, I'm starting a new series called Shopping My Closet where most if not all items in my outfit will be several seasons old. I know that doesn't sound enticing (who doesn't love shopping the new trends?), but it's a great idea for those on a budget (like myself). In my first installment, I'm mixing a few graphic prints with leopard accessories and throwing in a quick change to go from day to night. Let me know how you like to shop your own closet!

Safari

I was feeling a little safari-esque with my khaki colored coat and boots, but realized with no zebras or cheetahs in sight, I was free to wear whatever I desired today! I've been finding the classic button-down shirts to be a perfect topper where I feel dressed up enough, but comfortable and casual for my daily duties. Plus, add a small polka dot to it and call it a day!

It's a Wrap

Typically the hand-me-downs I receive (or usually take) from my Mom are necklaces, colorful earrings and the occasional handbag. So when she mentioned this cashmere wrap sweater was too "itchy" for her delicate skin, I excitedly accepted her generous donation! Not only is this the softest sweater I own, but the color and versatility of it is a perfect transitional piece for this time of year. Wear it over a few layers if you're climate hasn't thawed from the Polar Vortex or top it over a simple tank for the warmer spring days ahead.

Less is More

This navy on navy look with a touch of gold was all my brain could put together this morning. However, as simple as this outfit is, it worked well for me today. Less truly is more sometimes!

Midwest is Best

I was born and raised in Chicago, so after moving to Charlotte this past summer, my mother didn't want me to forget my roots apparently and gifted me this super soft t-shirt. You can either dress it up or wear it to bed - either way, the perfect tee in my book!

My Blue and Red Valentine

Bright red mixed with cobalt and navy blue just seemed like a fun choice this Valentine morning. It's always fun to mix it up a little. Plus, anything I can pair with these gorgeous geometric blue earrings, is a win in my book!

At Home

Most days you'll find me sporting something like this - casual, simple and most importantly comfortable. On those days you stay home, rather than throwing your hair into a ponytail and putting on a baggy pair of sweatpants, rethink the idea - let your hair dry naturally and slip on a monochromatic look with cozy accents. And if you do run out, simply add a warm vest, shoulder bag and fun boots.

Inspired by...J.Crew

I'm starting a series on the blog called Inspired by, which will document outfits that I put together based on inspiration I found from fellow bloggers, magazines, catalogs, or even real-life. The unique thing behind this series is that most (if not all) will be clothes I already have in my closet - or at least that's the plan! I'd love to hear your comments or see your inspired by outfits, so be sure to post a link to your site.

Just this morning, I was browsing the J.Crew February Style Guide (mine seem to keep getting lost in the mail) and tore out this very chic, very simple outfit that inspired today's post (and new blog series). Classic layers, comfortable pieces, and a pop of color at the wrist and toes make for a perfect look.
