Less is More

This navy on navy look with a touch of gold was all my brain could put together this morning. However, as simple as this outfit is, it worked well for me today. Less truly is more sometimes!

Midwest is Best

I was born and raised in Chicago, so after moving to Charlotte this past summer, my mother didn't want me to forget my roots apparently and gifted me this super soft t-shirt. You can either dress it up or wear it to bed - either way, the perfect tee in my book!

My Blue and Red Valentine

Bright red mixed with cobalt and navy blue just seemed like a fun choice this Valentine morning. It's always fun to mix it up a little. Plus, anything I can pair with these gorgeous geometric blue earrings, is a win in my book!

At Home

Most days you'll find me sporting something like this - casual, simple and most importantly comfortable. On those days you stay home, rather than throwing your hair into a ponytail and putting on a baggy pair of sweatpants, rethink the idea - let your hair dry naturally and slip on a monochromatic look with cozy accents. And if you do run out, simply add a warm vest, shoulder bag and fun boots.

Inspired by...J.Crew

I'm starting a series on the blog called Inspired by, which will document outfits that I put together based on inspiration I found from fellow bloggers, magazines, catalogs, or even real-life. The unique thing behind this series is that most (if not all) will be clothes I already have in my closet - or at least that's the plan! I'd love to hear your comments or see your inspired by outfits, so be sure to post a link to your site.

Just this morning, I was browsing the J.Crew February Style Guide (mine seem to keep getting lost in the mail) and tore out this very chic, very simple outfit that inspired today's post (and new blog series). Classic layers, comfortable pieces, and a pop of color at the wrist and toes make for a perfect look.

Found!

After several disappointments (see below) and a few surprises, I think I've found a great pair of skinnies. I tried several shops (both high and low price points) and have settled on the jegging from American Eagle. The fit, length, material and price are perfect! I'm saving up to get a couple pairs in different colors, because when you find something good, you don't want to let it go!

Legging jeans from Express (with son photobombing). For the price, I was not impressed with the quality and fit.

On the Hunt - Skinny Jeans

I'm on the hunt for the perfect pair of skinny jeans. I have two pairs that I regularly rotate (but noticing the shape, texture and color are fading fast) and about six more pairs that I don't like wearing, but do only because they're my only options. Here is my criteria:
  1. Comfort - I need a pair that stretches, breathes and doesn't constrict me. There are so many jean fabrics out there, no one pair is the same.
  2. Affordable - I'm aiming to spend no more than $50. While I understand this may limit my search, I'm confident I can find a great pair for less.
  3. Color - I'm looking for a darker rinse that will look chic with my everyday attire and also pulled together for date nights.
  4. Length - At 5'3", length is always an issue in finding a perfect pair of pants. I'm definitely open to tailoring a pair, but will also have to keep that in mind regarding budget as tailoring tends to add $15-20.
Over the next couple of weeks, I plan to try these styles.

p.s. I also spotted a great ankle length pair at Abercrombie & Fitch that I'll have to make a stop in to check out. So many options, so little time!
